Free Clinics

All clinics listed below are free. You do not need to be registered for the Grand Rapids Triathlon or be a member of the YMCA. They will be held at the downtown YMCA – David D. Hunting Center (475 Lake MI Drive) in the front classroom area. All clinics are classroom style.

TRIATHLON 101 PART A – GREAT FOR BEGINNER TRIATHLETES!

For athletes new to the sport or considering getting into triathlon. Equipment, training and racing tips, nutrition, transitions and USAT rules.

SWIM – TECHNIQUE & TRAINING

Jan 17, 2015 10:45am – Noon

Open to all levels, but geared toward athletes looking to step beyond beginner. Swim stroke technique discussions and training recommendations.

TRIATHLON 101 PART B – GREAT FOR BEGINNER TRIATHLETES

Feb 28, 2015 : 9:00am – 10:00am

Open to all levels, but geared toward athletes who are currently training for their first triathlon  or have completed their first triathlon, and would like to learn how to train more efficiently and productively.  Topics such as how to train with heart rate zones, proper taper for your event, strength training and much more.  This is a must attend for any triathlete with a goal to improve their times this year.

BIKE/RUN – FIT TECHNIQUE AND TRAINING

Feb 28, 2015 10:00am – 11:00am

This will be a two part clinic: (1) Good Form Running Session and (2) Bike tune up, maintenance and how to change a tire. Geared to all levels but focused on the beginner.

NOTE: Tri Training Group Orientation will be held immediately following this clinic.

RACE DAY CLINIC

May 30, 2015 9:00am – 10:15am

Get all your questions answered for race day. For all participants of the Grand Rapids Triathlon. What to expect on race day, course details, logistics, where to park, transition location, wave start times, spectator info & more.

OPEN WATER PRACTICE SWIM AND COURSE RIDE

Practice Swim: June 7, 2015 8:00am – 9:00am*

We will be holding a practice swim at the boat launch located on the corner of Thornapple River Dr. and Buttrick. The Sprint course will be monitored for this practice swim. For longer distances, we ask you swim the Sprint course multiple times but must be out of the water no later than 9:00am. A separate wave for newbies with pre-coaching session will be available as well starting at 8am, led by certified coaches.

Due to increased insurance rates and a river access fee the Grand Rapids Triathlon is now being charged, there will be a $5 fee for those wanting to participate in this event. You may pay this fee the day of the event or pre-pay by purchasing an On Course Swim pass available on our store site.

Practice Ride: June 7, 2015 9:00am – 10:30am*

We will be holding a practice bike ride at Ada Park. The Sprint and Olympic course will be supported by WM Bike and Fitness for this practice ride. For longer distances, we ask you ride the Sprint or Olympic course multiple times but be off course no later than 11:00am.

*You will be required to sign waivers for both of these practices.
